Gosford Greyhounds Race Report for October 9
Gosford greyhounds continuously impress punters both track side and on the internet. Because they run so strong week after week, punters take great interest in even the smallest races. The odds offered are always good and fair for each and every race and while there is skill in choosing the winning dog, there is a great deal of luck to it as well. Each and every day the Gosford greyhounds run, there are races that are excellent and others that are incredible upsets for many punters. Last Tuesday’s racing was no exception, giving the person watching the race an excellent set of races and the punter, whether track side or online, some great races provided they picked the right greyhounds to punt on.
Gosford Greyhounds Best Race of the Day
The Gosford greyhounds ran strong all day but the best race was, hands down, the eigth race of the day. While many punters are unhappy with the results, even they cannot argue that it was a strong running and an incredibly close finish; almost too close to call. The official time difference between the first place dog, Salford Gypo and Gazmick Jax was a single hundredth of a second. The photo finish between these two dogs show Salford Gypo winning literally by a nose. Punters do not like this race because Salford Gypo nor Gazmick Jax were in the fifth and eigth boxes going into the race and were absolutely not favoured to win, yet they won and took second. The second box dog, Tuskegee, took third place and was only seven hundredths of a second out of first place. Lorde Howe, who was the favoured dog going into the race and the first box dog for the race, took fourth place with a time of 30.63, compared to the winning time 30.44.
Gosford Greyhounds Biggest Upset of the Day
While the eighth race was incredible yet a big disappointment to those that punted safely on it, race ten was even more so for most punters, both track side and on the internet. This race’s first section looked promising with the three box dog, Sonia Bay, hitting the timer in first place, however by the time the second timer was hit, Sonia Bay had dropped to third place and finished the race in fourth place with a time of 24.28 for this 400 metre spring event. Mister Foy began the race in the eighth box and was really down on odds yet was third at the first trap and accelerated to win with a time of 23.53 seconds. Dirty Long legs ended up placing third after running most of the race as the second place dog and Sirocco Pirate accelerated to a second place finish from the fourth box. Of any dog that placed, Sirocco Pirate’s second place finish out of this heat’s Gosford greyhounds is the only one that the any large majority of punters would have laid odds on and any type of exotic exacta, trifecta or the like was likely shot down unless the punter had some really good luck while picking dogs for this race.
Gosford Greyhounds Most Predictable Race of the Day
Some days, the Gosford greyhounds will give punters at least one race where the ranked dogs race, win and lose in the same order as the rankings say they should. However, it is rare that a punter could place a quad punt based on the ranking order given by bookmakers. Today was no exception, though it was close to one. In race five, which was a grade 4/5 combo race at the sprint distance of 400 metres, the first ranked dog, State Mint, took the win and did so handily. The second and third ranked greyhounds of the race were actually running first and second until the end when both State Mint and the seven box dog Right on Ruby began racing for the lead and ultimately for State Mint, the win. Right on Ruby took a surprise second place and with her record and the odds given for her likely destroyed many punters hopes of winning an extacta or even a trifecta.
Conclusion:
Gosford Greyhounds constantly cause punters both elation and sadness; many times on the same day. This past tuesday was no exception with the races being surprisingly inconsistent compared to the rankings that the bookmakers made. This day of racing really emphasises how much chance and luck comes into play when a punter is making selections. Even the best system would have been thwarted when the greyhounds produce results such as they did on October ninth.
