Wow what a night !! Tuesday night 3rd January saw the running of the group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Supplies Gosford Gold Cup which was sponsored by Laurie & Ruth Refalo who own the Woy Woy Poultry Supplies. A massive crowd turned up trackside to witness the running of the first group race of the year. $40,000 was awaiting the winner & it was great to see such a strong field assemble for what was a well fought out race. The race had the Melbourne Cup winner & Peter Mossman winner “Ando’s Mac” who was sent out the shortest price favorite of any Gold Cup at $1.30. We had Srixon who is a group one finalist, Camden Gossip who fittingly capped off a wonderful year at Gosford by making the cup final. As the drink flowed & the food was consumed by the ever building crowd all was ready for the main event.
Knight Sprite (last year’s winner) didn’t show his age by pinging the lids & going straight to the lead. Barking Bad got the dream run outside the leader by following him across which cut Ando’s Mac off at the first turn. It was clear there were three chances with Barking Bad taking over down the back & Ando’s Mac stuck on the fence in third. In the run to the line Barking Bad trained by Michael Eberand went strong to to the line holding off the gallant Knight Sprite in second & Ando’s Mac who was unlucky but had his chance back in 3rd. The time 29.35 was a race record time which shows how hard the groundsman & staff have worked to produce a wonderful & fast racing surface. Well done to the winning connections on a fine race. A big thank you must go out to distinguished guest Mr Kevin Keys our former track manager who gives us his time, David Mehan MP for The Entrance, directors Brad Sabotic, Gary Minter, Joe & Dianne Cotroneo, Norm & Lynne Curby & also our major sponsors Woy Woy Poultry Supplies, Steve Blyth Electrical, Narara Plumbing & Rapid Clean Central Coast. Lastly a huge big thank you to all the Gosford staff who as always gel together & help make this night so special & drama free. Everybody on track witnessed greyhound racing at its best. I really look forward to seeing everyone back for more racing in the new year.
