A great crowd attended the Pink Ribbon Greyhound Race Meeting on Tuesday October 3 at Gosford Greyhound Club hosted by Central Coast trainer Raelee Shearer.
The Greyhound Community got behind Raelee, helping to raise a staggering $20,333.00 from the event, with all proceeds being donated to Cancer Council NSW.
The funds raised will help the countless women affected by breast and gynecological cancers. Cancer Council NSW is the only charity that supports women through the entire journey – from diagnosis and treatment, to recovery and life after cancer. This means that every dollar raised is funding vital research, prevention programs and support services for women.
The cause is particularly of importance to Raelee, who, having survived breast cancer herself, knows how significant the ongoing research and invaluable work done by Staff and Volunteers at the Cancer Council is. Raelee is hopeful that their combined efforts will provide more opportunities to find a prevention.
A great night of racing was had with the Pink Ribbon Stake the feature event on the card. Trainers and their dogs conducted a pre-race parade accompanied by children wearing pink ribbon t-shirts and carrying race card numbers.
The race was won by “Little Big Town”, trained by Anthony Messina and owned by Christopher Ashworth. The Gosford Greyhound Club would like to congratulate all connections.
The crowd enjoyed a fantastic night of fundraising, with the opportunity to enter raffles, have their hair sprayed pink or their nails painted in pink, buy pink ribbon cupcakes, or participate in some dart ball! Best dressed in the “Pink Theme” on the night were Damian Montgomery, L.J. Hooker Budgewoi and greyhound owner, Carol Gaunt.
The greyhound industry once again got behind Raelee, helping Raelee to raise an enormous amount for this fantastic cause. The Gosford Greyhound Club would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support.
